#5 - How I Began
I was asked to explain a little about how I started this journey.
To be honest, it's really simple. One night a friend of mine was talking to me about keto and how awesome it was, etc and I rolled my eyes like I normally do, but asked her to add me to some FB groups. She did...and I was more confused than ever (go figure). So I ignored the groups for a while and then one day when I looked myself in the mirror and decided something has to change, I started researching. I googled, I used the search option in those FB groups, I read pinned posts, I got some cookbooks, I researched some more. The thing that stuck out to me the most was...
- drink a lot of water (half body weight in ounces recommended)
- keep carbs low (20-30g/day)
- avoid sugar
So that's where I started. I downloaded MyFitnessPal and use math to come up with net carbs (because it doesn't calculate net, just total).
Some days I hit my goals, some days I don't. I take it literally one day at a time.
I am not hardcore by any form of the word (and I'm sure I will be criticized at some point for it). I have way too much on my plate day to day to have a million more things to remember.
I don't always drink enough water (in fact, I drink crystal light more than anything or unsweet tea w/liquid truvia ....some find that controversial). I don't track every single thing, every single day on most days. I try to stay 1000-1400 calories per day (I shoot for the low end but don't always stay there).
It really is that simple.
Do not hear me say it is easy. It isn't. Nothing worth doing is ever easy.
It is doable and it is simple.
You just have to make up your mind to do it.
The time will pass regardless.
Love,
Sam
