#1: Half Ass Keto
Entry number one.
It feels so official to be blogging and knowing people might actually read what I have to say. To be honest, I don't really feel like what I have to say is important or worthy of anyone taking their time to read it. However, at the urging of friends who have seen my journey and wanted to either be a part of it or just understand it a bit more, here I am.
There's a bit of hesitancy as I sit back and think about how far I've come (and how far I've yet to go). There's a huge level of accountability in making this 'public'. I don't have all the answers. I'm not a doctor, I cannot give you medical advice. I do things the wrong way often. I am not hardcore about anything in life and therefore have an approach to my keto journey that I've phrased "half ass keto". It's funny because I think it's two-fold. I have seen people lose literally half their asses from eating a keto diet and then there's my approach to the way of eating (WOE) that makes me feel like I skate by and don't follow all the "rules". Side note: I love Jesus, but I cuss sometimes, please don't be offended.
I am a stay at home mom (SAHM for all you common folks). My 3.5 year old keeps me on my toes. We also foster my 13 year old nephew (almost 14 yrs he says). We are active in our church as Home Group Leaders. Nick works a full-time job and I work from home running a small business. I also am finishing up my Masters in Professional Counseling. I am busy. I have very little brain capacity for things like remembering what foods I'm not supposed to eat, what foods I can have, if it's on a certain list, etc. Hence, my approach to the keto diet.
I began my keto journey in June 2017 when I stepped on the scale at over 300lbs (embarrassed doesn't cut it). I knew I needed to change things for me. I knew I needed to make alterations to my lifestyle for me. I knew that I had to be the one to do it or it would never happen. I knew that I wanted to be healthy inside and out. So, I did a lot of research, fell down a lot, got back up a lot and kept going.
I hope my approach and my journey helps you and doesn't hinder you. Every single persons body is different and each body needs different things and different amounts of things. I want to encourage you that if you are on this journey with me, that you adapt to what works for you. If you need more water, drink more water. If you need more vitamins, take more vitamins. If you need less protein, more fat, less carbs, more carbs, etc. etc. etc. do what works for you. There is no right or wrong here (don't burn me at the stake all you hardcore ketoers). My best advice is to just start. Adapt as you go. Modify if you need to, but just start. That's the hardest part.
So, cheers to a new year. New goals. New dreams. New days to begin fresh.
Love,
Sam
I would love to know HOW you started. Research? Meal plan? Pick a day and go for it?
