#3 - Happy New Year
It's New Year's Day friends!! I will write a separate post about our goals and dreams/plans for the new year, but first up....it's a southern New Year's tradition to eat black eyed peas and cabbage with some sort of pork. If you know much about black eyed peas, you know they aren't the most "carb friendly" food out there. However, tradition is tradition right? It just means I have to plan harder to make sure my carbs are in check for the remainder of the day.
Black eyed peas are (on average) 27g of carb per cup w/7g of fiber = 20 net carbs per cup.
Cabbage is (on average) 5.2g of carb per cup w/2.2g of fiber = 3 net carbs per cup.
H.A.K. = I don't keep up with the carbs in meat (who has time for all that).
So if you're keeping track, if you have a cup of each, that's 23g of net carbs. Not awesome, but not bad if you keep a tight reign on the remainder of your day!
